With the loss of data by HM Revenue and Customs making the headlines, it is worth pointing out two things which aren’t being talked about.
Firstly, that the data stolen are those of recent claimants for child benefit and their families. The data for families with no children under 19 are unlikely to have been lost.
Secondly, as well as checking bank accounts, you should keep an eye on whether anyone is applying for credit in your name. You can do this by making use of a service such as
